Time to start training for next years CrossFit Games, with HQ announcing the dates for the 2013 CrossFit Open.
The 2013 CrossFit season will officially begin on March 6 with the first of five online workouts to be held.
The format will be exactly the same as it was in the past two years, with athletes able to complete each workout as many times a they want within the time period, as long as it is authenticated by a CrossFit affiliate, or judged online.
Just like last year, there will be weekly prizes for the best workout across the globe, and the team structure remains the same.
However, there is one notable change.
For the first time ever, 2013 will see the introduction of a new Master’s division.
The 40-44 year old category will be added to the existing four age groups. It will be interesting to see how many top athletes who fit in this age group decide to compete in the Open, or try their hand in the new Masters Division.
Cheryl Brost and Amanda Allen are two competitors who fit this mould. Both are in their 40s, and both are expected to be in the mix to qualify for the Games in 2013.
Registration for the Open begins January 30, with a record number of participants expected to take part.
In 2011, in the first ever Open, more than 26,000 people took part. 2012 saw more than 70,000 participants.
This year organizers are hoping for that figure to break six figures.
