Albert-Dominic Larouche: Taking a Break From CrossFit

ALbert Dominic Larouche

Three-time CrossFit Games competitor Albert-Dominic Larouche has announced he’s taking a break from competition, and will not be entering next year’s CrossFit Games season.

The 12th place finisher at the 2013 Games was forced to withdraw mid way through this year’s showpiece after suffering an ankle injury on the Friday of competition.

ADL revealed to fans on Facebook that he’s taking a break from the sport to concentrate on his own box, CrossFit Chambly.

Here is what the French Canadian posted on Facebook, with the English translation below:

Albert

Which loosely translates to:

I feel the need to share some information. Because even though I don’t have to explain myself, I’m holding myself to it. It’s not really my style to post my emotions and feelings on social media.

I’ve decided to take a break from my so-called “career” as an individual athlete in CrossFit and also to pull-out of the next round of qualification for the CrossFit Games. This is not an easy decision, but I am not there right now, the last while has been particularly startling for me, but I believe I’ve accomplished what I wanted to accomplish. 4 years of CrossFit Games appearances, the opening of my gym and my career outside of CrossFit make me very proud. Over the last 4 years I’ve had the support of amazing people as well as sponsors, family and friends. Thank you so much! As I mentioned, I’m just not there right now, my priorities have changed. I need to take a break/some rest. Before leaving for the CrossFit Games, I told myself that this was my last year or at least that I would take a year off before I came back. I decided to return immediately to training after I got back because of a poor performance (injured) on my part, thinking that I wasn’t done … wrong.

In the end, I made the decision I foresaw for myself … A year of rest (rest does not mean stopping training). After which I will see and analyse the possibilities available to me. For the moment I want to concentrate on my gym. I’m not dismissing the possibility of competing on a team but for the moment nothing has been decided.

Thank you so much to all who supported, coached, followed, sponsored, guided, trained and competed with me … the road is not always easy but you (friends/family/girlfriend) were there for me in good times and also in bad.

And I was hoping to keep this short …

Albert.

It will be interesting to see if Albert-Domninic Larouche does return to competition after 2015. In the past few years we have seen Julie Foucher make a successful return to competition after taking a year off to focus on her studies, while we have also seen Azadeh Boroumand take a break from the sport and not return.

There is no doubt the 24 year old has what it takes to throwdown with the best in the world. It would be great to see him return to competion in years to come.
