Ben Garard was one of the favourites to qualify for the 2013 CrossFit Games in the early stages of last year’s Open.
But the 25 year old never ended up competing at the 2013 Australia Regional event after his score for 13.2 was rejected by HQ. Garard’s initial score of 387 reps was revised down to just 1 after he failed to meet the movement standards set out by CrossFit during the workout.
The score adjustment resulted in Garard failing to qualify for the Australia Regional in 2013, and instead, he watched from the sidelines as spectator.
This year, however, Garard is back and will be competing in the 2014 Australia Regional after finishing the Open in second place in the Region.
We caught up with him on the eve of the 2014 CrossFit season to talk about his goals for this year, what he’s learned from last year, his take on drugs in sport and whether he thinks he has what it takes to be crowned the ‘Fittest Man on Earth’.
