Josh Bridges to Return in 2013

We’re now just two weeks away from registration opening up for the 2013 CrossFit Open, and we can expect to see the return of at least one big name when it does.

2011 CrossFit Games runner-up Josh Bridges has confirmed he will be taking part in the Open when it begins on March 7. Bridges has also revealed he plans on competing at the Regionals and the Games if he qualifies for both.

With big names like Chris Spealler and Julie Foucher both expected to take some time away from the sport this year, the return of Bridges couldn’t come at a better time.

After missing out on competing last year due to ‘military obligations’, Bridges was forced to watch the Regional competitions and the 2012 CrossFit Games from the grandstand.

“It was a terrible process (spectating), it was horrible,” he told HQ in a recent interview.

“But it is what it is, it’s over now and I’m moving on to 2013.”

Since returning from his military commitments, Bridges has been involved in some fairly hectic training.

As well as working out regularly with coach CJ Martin at CrossFit Invictus, he also trained with Team USA in the lead up to the 2012 CrossFit Invitational.

“My volume’s pretty high,” he says. “I feel like I need a little more volume, but if my body’s wrecked I’ll back off. It just depends on how I feel.”

The Open is now less than seven weeks away, and when it arrives, Bridges knows he won’t be holding back.

“For me it’s hard not to try to win. I’m a competitive person,” Bridges says. “I think most people that are doing this are. Some people back off in the Open and just get by but I don’t think I have that gear. I can’t back off. I’m gonna go all out, no matter what.”

Here is some footage of Bridges going head to head with eventual winner Rich Froning at the 2011 CrossFit Games:
