In The Rx Review’s latest Box Tour series, we travelled to Sydney, Australia to check out some of leading CrossFit gyms in the popular city.
In Part 4 we visited CrossFit North Head. This affiliate is located in the northern suburb of Manly around 20 minutes from the CBD.
CrossFit North Head is one of the more unique gyms you’ll find in Sydney. Set up in an old airplane hanger located in a national park, the affiliate has an enormous amount of room. It also has some great serenity. It’s not uncommon to see native wildlife like kangaroos and wallabies run around while you train there!
In addition, the gym is also a bit famous, after being used as Commando Steve’s training shed in the Australian version of the reality TV show, The Biggest Loser.
The affiliate was started by Andrew Berridge, a four-time regional competitor with 25 years of experience in the fitness industry. After a successful kickboxing career, which saw he win eight national titles, Berridge soon turned his attention to functional fitness.
According to their website:
“CrossFit North Head is a gym like no other. Both for the unique style of training that is CrossFit, and for its unique 500 sq m facility located in the North Head National Park. Simply addictive, and extraordinarily effective, CrossFit combines functional movements into workouts that anyone from everyday to athlete can participate in.
Located in an old airplane hanger, with retractable doors at both ends, the entire gym becomes open-air during summer. We have an enormous open space for training, not crowded with people or equipment.”
