Team Europe has now been announced for the 2014 CrossFit Invitational!

On November 9 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, Team USA, Team Europe, Team Canada, and Team Australia will compete in back-to-back events during the two-hour competition.

Team Europe is the third roster to be announced so far after Team Australia and Team Canada were revealed last week. Here is who will be representing the Europe region:

Annie Thorisdottir

The two time CrossFit Games champion (2011 & 2012) missed the chance to secure a three-peat after a back injury forced her to withdraw from the 2013 showpiece.

However, Iceland Annie showed the world she is still one of the top athletes in the world, finishing second at the 2014 CrossFit Games.

One of the biggest names in the sport, Thorisdottir will be the key to Team Europe’s success.

Sam Briggs

After missing the 2012 season with a knee injury, the former firefighter Briggs made a spectacular return in 2013, winning the CrossFit Games for the first time in her career.

However, she failed to defend her title after missing out on a podium finish at the 2014 Europe Regional. For the first time in Games history a reigning champ failed to qualify for the Games by missing out on a podium finish at a Regional event.

However, there is no doubt Briggs is still one of the best female athletes in the world and together with Thorisdottir, Team Europe will have one of the strongest female duo’s at the 2014 CrossFit Invitaitonal.

Lukas Hogberg

Hogberg made his debut at the CrossFit Games in 2014 after taking second place at the Eruope Regional.

With four top 12 finishes during the week long competition in Carso, California, the Swede finished 23rd overall, the best placing out of any of the male Europe qualifiers.

Bjorgvin Gudmundsson

The 21 year old from Iceland also made his debut at the CrossFit Games in 2014 after tying with Hogberg on points at the Europe Regional this year.

He went on to finish 26th in his first appearance at the StubHub Center. Guðmundsson also started training at CrossFit Reykjavik with Annie Thorisdottir, Frederik Aegidius, KatrinDavidsdottir, and Thuridur Helgadottir.

Mads Jacobsen – Coach

Jacobsen is a Level 1 Seminar Staff member and was the coach of Team World at the 2013 CrossFit Invitational. With Team World upsetting Team USA in Berlin, Germany that year, Jacobsen is quietly confident he can cause another upset at this year’s event.
