The 2014 CrossFit Games gets underway tomorrow (Wednesday, July 23, 2014) for the male and female individual athletes with this year’s first event taking place at Hermosa Beach Pier in California.
Just like the past three years, the CrossFit Games will start with another ‘water workout’ with swimming once again included in the programming.
Games Director Dave Castro made the announcement a few weeks ago that the opening event at the games would be at a beach, however, we weren’t sure if that meant it would include a water discipline. A few hours ago, CrossFit confirmed what many of us were thinking, revealing short swims will be included in Event 1, along with kettlebell thrusters and burpees.
Here’s a closer look at what the first event of the 2014 CrossFit Games is made up of:
For time:
Swim 250 yards
50 kettlebell thrusters (35 / 24 lb.)
30 burpees
Swim 500 yards
30 burpees
50 kettlebell thrusters (35 / 24 lb.)
Swim 250 yards
Event 1, named ‘The Beach’ will begin Wednesday morning at 9:00AM (PT) with the individual male competitors taking to the water first, before the women’s heat commences at 10AM (PT).
