Big Names Fail to Qualify for the 2013 CrossFit Games

Pat Barber Missed out on a Games Berth by Just 2 Points

The 2013 CrossFit Regionals are now done and dusted with 47 men, 44 women and 43 teams qualifying for this year’s CrossFit Games.

This year we saw a number of new faces earn a ticket to the Carson, California next month, with a number of upsets and surprises right across the world.

Here is a look at some of the big name athletes who failed to earn automatic qualification in the open division at the 2013 CrossFit Games:

Chris Spealler The six-time Games competitor finished 4th in the South West Regional, ending the weekend just two points outside automatic qualification zone.

Spencer Hendel – Despite winning the final Event, the 13 finisher at the 2012 Games ended the weekend just two points shy of qualifying for this year’s competition.

Cheryl Brost – The three-time Games competitor was forced to withdraw from the North West Regional after tearing her achilles during a box jump on Event 5.

Pat Burke – The Games veteran missed out on a return this year after finishing eighth at the South West Regional

Amanda Allen – Despite finishing the Open in 11th place worldwide, the former Games competitor finished fifth at the Australia Regional, just seven points shy of earning a qualification spot.

Katie Hogan – Despite finishing second in two Events, the two-time Games competitor ended up finishing ninth in the NorCal Regional.

Annie Sakamoto – The CrossFit veteran missed out on a qualification spot by just two points in one of the closes finishes ever at the NorCal Regional.

Pat Barber – Barber needed to beat Marcus Filly in the final Event of the NorCal Regional to qualify for the Games. He finished five seconds behind him, narrowly missing out on a return to the Home Depot Center.

Lindsey Smith – The four-time Games competitor finished fourth at the Central East Regional, missing out on a podium finish by 13 points.

Nate Schrader – The 12th place finisher at the Games last year struggled on Day 1 of the Mid Atlantic Regional and ended up finishing the weekend in sixth place.

Alicia Conners – Finished in first place in the Canada West Region in the Open, and was on track to qualify for the Games this year when she withdrew from the Canada West Regional on Day 2.

Matthew LeFave – Last year’s Regional runner up finished 4th in the Canada East Regional this year, missing out on a qualifying spot by 15 points.

Becky Conzelman – Was on track for a return to the Home Depot Center next month heading into the final Event at the South West Regional. However, Conzelman ended up finishing 19th in the workout, missing out on qualifying for the Games by just 6 points.
