Recent reports conducted by US Food and Drug Administration and Consumer Reports found elevated levels of arsenic in a wide variety of rice products.
The report analysed over 200 samples of popular rice brands. From brown rice, white rice, cereals, rice cakes and rice milk, and discovered some brands contained more arsenic in a single serve than the EPA allows in a quart of drinking water.
There are still debates as to what the legal limit of arsenic in food products should be as the rate it affects your body is a moot point. It is however agreed that high levels of exposure to it can increase a person’s risk of cancer and heart disease.
