There was some big news in the female CrossFit division last week with 2012 CrossFit Games runner-up Julie Foucher announcing she won’t be competing in 2013.
The 23 year old medical student has decided to take the year off to focus more on her studies. As a result, she won’t be taking part in the 2013 CrossFit Open, Regionals, or the Games.
It’s fair to say Foucher’s absence from the female division will be noticeable. After finishing 5th in the 2010 and 2011 CrossFit Games, Foucher looked in great form this year, and showed the world she has what it takes to claim the title of the ‘Fittest Woman on Earth’ in 2013.
So the question begs, with Foucher not competing next year, who female athlete will win the 2013 CrossFit Games?
Will Annie Thorisdottir claim the title for a third year running? Will Kristan Clever take back the crown she had in 2010? Will Talayna Fortunato continue to improve on her podium finish at her first Games? Or will we see a surprise newcomer take the title?
