There is no shortage of protein bars in the fitness world. Walk into any CrossFit gym, supermarket or health food store and you’ll be sure to find a section dedicated to protein bars. The problem is, with so many bars available to the public, which one should we be taking? And what protein bars should we be avoiding, if any?
I suppose the best way to answer that, is to find the protein bar that best suits your needs. Every person is different, and everyone has a unique body that is different to others. But if you’re someone who is trying to lose weight, while also trying to maintain muscle size and tone, then the formula shouldn’t be too difficult: find a bar that is high in protein and essential fats, and low in sugars and carbohydrates.
One of these bars is Positrim Protein Bars by Nutriway.
Positrim Protein Bars are designed to help people lose weight while also maintaining a good athletic physique. The bars are made from high quality protein and amino acids, but also work to help people lose weight by suppressing appetite.
According to their website:
“These bars can help promote satiety, meaning that you will feel fuller for longer and are less likely to reach for foods higher in carbohydrates and fats. Plus, they have a low 2 grams of carbohydrates per serve and are calcium enriched, with each serve providing 25% of your RDI.”
The Good
Ingredients: Positrim Protein Bars by Nutriway are formulated with a scientific balance of nutrients. Each bar contains 22.5 grams of high quality protein which provides all 9 essential amino acids to help support healthy muscle growth and development. They also have a low 2 grams of carbohydrates per serve and are calcium enriched. So all in all, the protein/carbohydrate make up is what you want to see in a protein bar.
Flavours: These protein bars are available in four different flavours. They are Fudgy Brownie, Mixed Berry Smoothie, Café Latte and Honeycomb Almond. Of those four there is sure to be a flavour that suits most people across the world.
Taste: There is no denying the fact people want to enjoy the food they are eating. While some are able to compromise taste for food quality, in the run long run, people’s taste buds often tend to get the better of them and win out. The good news is, Nutriway’s Positrim Protein Bar were actually quite enjoyable to eat. The Fudgy Brownie flavour was my favourite, but I still enjoyed the taste of the other there flavours.
Appetite Suppressed: Nutriway claim these bars are able to help promote satiety, allowing those who eat them to be fuller for longer. It also means they will be less likely to reach for foods higher in carbohydrates and fats. While eating these bars I certainly felt less hungry and I wasn’t craving any sugars or carbohydrate based meals.
Convenient: Protein bars have always been a convenient snack. You can keep them in the cupboard and they often have long shelve lives. They are a great snack to take to work with you, or even during long trips on the road.
The Bad
Glycerol: While Positrim Protein Bars by Nutriway are low in sugar with less than 2 grams of carbohydrates in each serving, they do contain glycerol, which is a sugar alternative. For those who aren’t familiar with Glycerol, it is a sugar alcohol derived from fats and oils. It sweetens food products without the same effect on blood sugar levels as regular sugar. However, technically, glycerol is a carbohydrate, so the 9 grams per serving is something to be aware of.
Price: A 9 pack of these Positrim Protein Bars sells for $69. So that works out to be just under $8 per bar. Compared to most other protein bars on the market, that price is fairly high.
Availability: You won’t find Nutriway’s Positrim Protein Bars at too many major supermarkets or health stores across the world, meaning the best way to purchase them is online.
Conclusion:
Overall, I quite enjoyed Positrim Protein Bars by Nutriway.
Compared to most other protein bars on the market, I thought they tasted great. And they certainly had a good range of flavours to satisfy me. In addition, my food cravings were reduced while eating them, and I certainly didn’t put on any weight, which is a great thing!
While the bars are low in sugars and carbohydrates, the glycerol content is something to be aware of. Also, the price of the bars is a bit of a deterrent as it’s a lot more expensive than what most other brands are charging.
If you’re on a budget, then maybe these bars cost a bit too much for what they offer. On the flip side, if money isn’t too much of an issue, then i’d have no problem recommending these bars as the taste and nutritional content is what you want in protein bars.
