It might not be the CrossFit Games, but WOD Gear is getting ready for their second annual team competition.
On July 28th, more than 70 teams will compete in the WOD Gear Team Competition at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA.
The event was held for the first time in December last year and was so successful organizers decided to hold one again just six months later.
For those who are unfamiliar with the event, the competition consists of teams made up of two males and two females. Unlike the CrossFit Games, teams do not have to belong to the same affiliate, and can be made up of members from any box around the world.
There’s a bit of prize-money up for grabs too, with the winning team earning $5000, second place pocketing $2500 and the third placed team taking home $1250.
Registration went on sale last month and within 20 minutes all 72 places were filled, with each team paying $400 to compete. If you are keen to organize a team, WOD Gear are still taking places on a waiting list in case anyone pulls out.
Many teams who competed in the NorCal and SoCal Regionals have already signed up, with a handful of athletes who also competed in the individual events set to take part. There are also event ambassadors from all corners of the world, including Australia’s Amanda Allen.
A great feature of the event is the venue. Rose Bowl Stadium is one of the best arenas in the world and a great place to watch any sporting event.
“We chose the Rose Bowl as our venue to give the CrossFit community the opportunity to compete in an arena where champions are made,” Gabriel Pelino, co-owner of the WOD Gear Team Series said.
“Very few can say that they have competed in the Rose Bowl!”
The competition consists of four WODs, and the best part about it, is that admission is FREE! If you are unable to attend, however, you can follow all the scores live with a realtime leaderboard operating through WODTime.
With the Games being held in the same month, the WOD Gear Team Series is a great way for competitors who missed out on qualification a chance to still sompete in a high quality event.
