1000 Burpee Challenge

With Thanksgiving celebrations wrapping up in the US, what better way to burn off all that turkey you ate than the 1000 burpee challenge!

The 1000 burpee challenge is as it sounds: do 1000 burpees as quickly as you can! (Click here to find out how to do a burpee).

Many of us would have taken part in the CrossFit Open last year, and found out just how hard burpees can be after the first 12.1 workout.

Some of you may also have completed the infamous ‘Burpee Mile’ and know how painful that workout can be.

However, when it comes to tough burpee workouts, it’s hard to beat the 1000 Burpee Challenge.

I tried the challenge once, and it took me an hour and a half to reach the half way point (500 burpees)!

To give you an idea of what a good time is, 2009 CrossFit Games champion Mikko Salo completed the workout in 1 hour and 22 minutes. His strategy was:

  • First 15 minutes – 13 reps every minute
  • Then sets of 12 every minute, sets of 11 every minutes…
  • Then survive

Check out this video of Salo talking about how tough the 1000 Burpee Challenge is and how he couldn’t train for DAYS after completing it:
