XFit Xmas Gift Guide

Xmas

It’s that time of year again! Welcome to the 2011 Holiday season! It’s a fun but stressful time of year as we all struggle to find the perfect gift for friends, family members and co-workers. Even harder still is trying to find the perfect gift for a CrossFitter. So this year, we here at The Rx Review, thought we could offer a hand.

Over the next few weeks we will be offering suggestions and recommendations that may just put a smile on the face of that CrossFit friend or loved one. So sit back and relax because this year The Rx Review has got your back!

Over the last two-weeks we have brought you recommendations on Jumps Ropes and medicine balls. Now that it’s just ten days till the big day we thought we should bring you ten gifts of varying price, range and diversity to help you along the way this holiday season.

Robb Wolf The Paleo Solution

Robb Wolf The Paleo Solution

The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet by Robb Wolf: This is one of the best books on diet I have read all year. Wolf is one of the world’s foremost experts on the Paleolithic diet and this book shows why. If you’re after the science behind the diet it’s all there. If you want to jump straight into all of the basic diet information it’s right there. If you’re after supreme Paleo recipes, they are there too. This book really has changed the way I eat and my approach to food so it had to be on the list. [$16 Amazon.com]

Looks like a torture device. The Theracane

Looks like a torture device. The Theracane

The Theracane: John just wrote about this yesterday. Despite the fact this looks more like a torture device than one of best trigger point massage tools I have used, makes it deceiving. At less than $30 it is a must buy as I cannot begin tell you how useful and practical it is. You can use it just about anywhere on your body: from your feet, hands and neck to your shoulders, legs, arms and back, you name it you can massage, poke and prod away at it. An added bonus: unlike foam rollers or lacrosse balls you don’t need to lie on the ground to use it. Plus, John’s review gave it The Rx Review “Prescribed” tick of approval so you know it’s a winner. Rope As Rx- Custom Jump Rope

My Favorite: Rope As Rx- Custom Jump Rope

Rope as Rx Custom Jump Rope: I discussed this rope in our recommendations last week. As I mentioned at the time, this is my favorite rope to date. The thicker handles mean it sits really well in my hand allowing me to relax my grip and shoulders. The only thing to consider is, as the name says this is a “custom” rope. So not only can you pick the thickness of the cable which will adjust your speed, a quick look at Rogues website shows there are a few measurements required. This may prove to be a problem if you’re trying to purchase this for someone, as you will need his or her height and measurements. However it is my favorite rope so had to be included in the list. [$34.95 from Rx Jump Ropes]

A400 Skins Compression Long Tights: Not only is compression clothing great for your WODs they are even better for recovery. Anyone that has seen me at the gym knows I always train in Skins. They are some of the most expensive pieces of clothing I have ever purchased but the fact is they work. They the have UV protection of 50+, increased blood flow that helps your body get rid of lactic acid and other metabolic waste which allows you to work at a higher intensity for a longer period. They also have an anti-moisture technology that draws moisture away from the body and means they will never end up smelling like an old pair of gym socks. Now despite the fact they sell both tops and bottoms I really feel the compression they offer works best on your legs. So for a gift I would only recommend a pair of the compression tights. [$169 from Skins]

One Fit Wonder Ball

One Fit Wonder Medicine Ball by Fringe Sport

One Fit Wonder Medicine Ball: We just wrote about this in the medicine ball gift guide. We said then it was the best value for dollar we could find and that still stands. These medicine balls are a recent addition to the CrossFit scene. They offer similar construction to the old standby Dynamax padded medicine ball but at a price that is significantly lower. One Fit Wonder is made by Fringe Sport and is their in-house brand. Although Fringe Sport is a relatively newcomer to the CrossFit equipment arena their exceptional and very friendly customer service has earned them huge respect within the CrossFit community. An added bonus is that Fringe Sport is owned and operated by CrossFitters. I spoke to the owner of Fringe Sport earlier this week about this range of medicine balls and the biggest selling point is their guarantee. Fringe Sport is so confident with their products they offer a 1-year 100% satisfaction guarantee that literally covers everything, not just manufacturing defects. So in ten months time, if this ball breaks open while doing a round of wall balls, Fringe Sport will not only pick up the return shipping cost but will send you a new one, free of charge. Now that’s customer service and peace of mind. [$65-$95 including Shipping from Fringe Sport]

Pure Twilight Radio Clock with Mood Light

Pure Twilight Radio Clock with Mood Light

Pure Twilight Wake-up light: Anyone that trains knows how important sleep is for recovery. There is nothing worse than being woken in the morning by an alarm clock. Therefore this clock, made by Pure, gradually increases the intensity of the light that is emitted from the dome on the top of the clock. I tested this one out for myself and the light is extremely bright and makes for a refreshing way to wake up in the morning. [$140 Pounds from Pure]

The Rogue Bar

The Rogue Bar

The Rogue Bar: No CrossFit gift guide would be complete without a barbell. Consequently, we had to include the Rogue Bar. I have tried countless other barbells over the years and this is by far is my favorite and the one I use in my own personal gym. It is a multipurpose bar so is suitable for almost every CrossFit need. The bar is virtually indestructible and comes with a lifetime warranty from the very trusted Rogue Fitness, making it a fantastic buy. [$274 from Rogue Fitness]
