There was no shortage of drama in the 2013 SoCal Regional. Over the three days of competition we had judging dramas, top athletes withdrawing and a number of inspiring performances from some of the worlds best CrossFitters.
The weekend saw the likes of Josh Bridges, Lindsey Valenzueala, Kristan Clever, Kenneth Leverich and Rebecca Voigt compete.
In the end, only three men and three women were able to qualify to the Games as individuals, meaning there was always going to be some tears shed.
Here are how the final leaderboards stand for all three major divisions:
Men
Josh Bridges was always going to be the one to watch in the men’s division. The 2011 Games runner-up dominated the Open and continued his good form at the Regional, winning four of the seven events. He finished 13 points clear of Kenneth Leverich in second place with Wes Piatt third.
Big names Ryan Fischer and Bill Grundler finished outside the qualification zone once again, denying them their first CrossFit Games appearance as an individual.
Women
The Valley girls were always going to be tough to beat this weekend, and it proved true with Rebecca Voigt and Lindsey Valenzuela fighting it out for Regional honours.
It came down to the final event with Valenzuela beating Voigt by 17 seconds to claim the title. Valerie Voboril finished third while 2010 Games champion Kristan Clever was fourth overall. Despite being outside the qualification zone, Clever has already received an invite by HQ to compete at the Games due to the fact she is a former Games champion.
Jamie Hagiya put in a impressive performance to finish fourth, while Andrea Ager withdrew from competition after her poor performance in the Overheat Squat event.
Team
CrossFit Invictus will be competing at the Games once again in 2013, after winning the team division. CJ Martin’s team finished in the top four in all events, to edge out Team CDR Redlands by just two points.
Brick Nation secured the final place at the Games by rounding out the podium.
